FAQ’s

Can anyone join?

We’re an LGBTQ+ cycling club and welcome all sexualities, gender identities, races, nationalities, expressions, and cultures. Please follow this link to apply for membership.

Do you have tiered rides?

LDN RIDERS is an inclusive cycling club, but in order to not leave anyone behind, we categorise our rides into the tiers. When you join, you get placed into the Green Tier. If you wish to move up tiers, please contact hello@ldnriders.com

Do you cater for beginners?

Yes. We simply request that you’re a capable cyclist who can ride a minimum distance of 30km / 19 miles at a reasonable pace.

How active is the club?

We’re one of the most active cycling clubs in London, with over 500 rides per year and more than 10 domestic and international trips annually!

Can I join a trial ride for free?

We offer Free Taster Sessions - the perfect opportunity to meet the team.

Do you charge a membership fee?

We charge a small annual membership fee of £35 to help cover admin costs. Just £2.92 per month. Less than the price of a coffee.

Do you hold social events?

Every ride is a social event! However, we do also go the extra mile to organise quarterly dedicated social events, with additional events hosted ad hoc throughout the year.

Is there a minimum age to join?

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to join LDN RIDERS.

Can I volunteer with the club?

Absolutely! We’re always looking for members to help with organising rides, social events, and supporting new riders. If you're interested, let us know.

Do you cover insurance?

LDN RIDERS, whilst endeavouring to be of assistance to you as much as possible, cannot be held responsible for your absolute welfare or safety at events, club rides, or social events. We recommend taking out insurance with a reputable company such as British Cycling.

Where do you ride from?

We host rides that start from locations across London - Central, North, East, South, and West. The location depends on the route. Or sometimes we’ll simply hop on a train!

What distances do you cover?

Our rides range from 30km (19 miles) to well over 100km (62 miles)! The distance depends on your cycling experience (see tiers above).

Do you hold training sessions?

We hold weekly fitness training sessions and hills training sessions multiple days each week.

Can I organise my own ride?

Once you have experience cycling with LDN RIDERS, you will have the opportunity to become a Ride Captain and host your own rides (following club onboarding).

What happens if the weather is bad?

We ride in most conditions, but if the weather is deemed unsafe (e.g., ice, storms, or extreme winds), we will cancel or reschedule the ride. Check our social channels for updates.

Can I organise my own ride?

Once you have experience cycling with LDN RIDERS, you will have the opportunity to become a Ride Captain and host your own rides (following club onboarding).

What happens if I have a mechanical issue on a ride?

We always do our best to help, but riders should be self-sufficient and bring their own spares. If in doubt, we recommend learning basic bike maintenance skills—YouTube is your best friend!

Do I need to sign up for rides in advance?

Yes, for most club rides, you’ll need to sign up in advance so we can manage group sizes and logistics. Details are shared in our member comms.

Are there any rules I should follow on club rides?

Yes! We ride safely and respectfully. That means following the Highway Code, riding two abreast where possible, calling out hazards, and looking out for fellow riders. First time? Don’t worry—we’ll guide you!

CYCLING GEAR

Do I need a road bike?

We recommend using a geared road bike. You’ll thank us when climbing those hills!

Do I need cycling shoes / cycling bib / cycling jersey?

We’d love everyone to sport an LDN RIDERS team jersey, but it’s not mandatory. Wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing! Whether that’s trainers and shorts or the full lycra look…

How do I order an LDN RIDERS team jersey?

Our kit shop opens twice a year, giving members the chance to purchase LDN RIDERS kit.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

This is a must! All members must wear a certified cycling helmet at all times whilst on their bike.

What should I bring on a ride?

We highly recommend bringing suitable hydration and nutrition, at least one spare inner tube, a portable hand pump, lights, a puncture repair kit, and above all… Good vibes!

Can I ride with clip-on aero bars?

For safety reasons, we do not allow the use of clip-on aero bars during club rides.

Can I use an e-bike?

For safety and ride consistency, we do not allow e-bikes on our club rides.
