Celebrating 5 years of LDN RIDERS

2026 is a special year for the club as we celebrate our fifth anniversary.

Marking the occasion with a celebratory boat party on the Thames.

Community and belonging aren’t always easy to find, particularly for those who identify as LGBTQ+ and particularly so in 2021, with the nation still in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic. When a small group of people got together to embark on a simple bike ride, they had no club and no plan, just a shared love of cycling and a desire to find more LGBTQ+ people to cycle with. But one simple bike ride became several, a small group became a larger one, and on 11th September with a first official club ride, LDN RIDERS was born.

Fast forward five years and the club is now 500+ members strong and award-winning, with rides happening every day of the week, numerous trips abroad, and regular charity endeavours. LDN RIDERS is more than just a cycling club.

Five years and eight days after that first official ride, the club celebrated in style by doing what it does best, riding long distances in the day and partying at night. Five groups cycled from Putney to Henley, the same route as that first club ride in 2021, before setting sale on the Thames for a boat party hosted by the club. True to form, our raffle on the night even raised over £600 for our chose charity akt. akt, the albert kennedy trust, are the only national charity dedicated to providing support for LGBTQ+ young people who are either at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing it - you can read more about it here.

Thanks to everyone involved - organising and attending - for making the day such a special one.

Here’s to the next five!
